The viral TikTok series “Who TF Did I Marry?” by Tareasa “Reesa Teesa” Johnson is making its way to television, with Natasha Rothwell, star of The White Lotus, set to lead and produce the show. The TikTok saga, which captivated millions with over 50 videos, chronicled Johnson’s whirlwind five-month marriage to a man she later revealed as a “pathological liar.” The series received widespread attention, garnering 450 million impressions and propelling Johnson to viral fame.
Johnson’s shocking tale involved her ex-husband, whom she called “Legion,” later identified as Jerome McCoy. She shared jaw-dropping revelations about how he lied about everything—from his education and employment history to even faking a funeral for a step-daughter who wasn’t dead. Fans of her series likened it to a dramatic TV show, which caught Hollywood’s attention. Rothwell acquired the rights in a bidding war and is now working with ABC Signature under her Big Hattie Productions.
This adaptation follows the trend of turning viral social media stories into mainstream content, with past examples including the Twitter thread-turned-film Zola and $h! My Dad Says*, based on a Twitter account. The upcoming “Who TF Did I Marry?” series is expected to dive deeper into Johnson’s experience of betrayal and heartbreak, while also highlighting her resilience in sharing her story with the world.
Rothwell, an Emmy-nominated actress, is excited about the project, announcing it on Instagram, “CAN’T STOP. WON’T STOP.” She’s known for her roles in Insecure and The White Lotus and is bringing her creative vision to the project as both star and producer. With Rothwell’s star power and Johnson’s gripping real-life story, the TV adaptation is set to be another success for both women.
As Johnson told CNN, despite the overwhelming response, she’s still a “regular woman” balancing her newfound fame with a normal job. Now represented by CAA, Johnson’s TikTok journey is a testament to how deeply personal stories can resonate with millions and create opportunities in unexpected ways.
