Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves have shared a quirky bond since their time filming together in the 1992 movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In a humorous twist, the two have jokingly considered themselves “married” ever since, thanks to an unusual circumstance on set.

In a wedding scene from Dracula, Coppola hired a real Romanian priest to conduct the ceremony. Ryder, in a 2018 interview, revealed her belief that she and Reeves were technically married, noting that the scene was filmed authentically. Reeves later confirmed this, saying, “Winona says we are [married], Coppola says we are. So, I guess we’re married… under the eyes of God.”

This playful notion of marriage has persisted for over three decades. During a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Ryder shared that she and Reeves still refer to each other as “husband” and “wife” in their text messages. She humorously recounted how on Reeves’ birthday, she messages him, “Happy birthday, my husband,” and Reeves responds similarly, signing off with his initials and age (e.g., “KR 57”).

The bond between the two actors, who also starred together in the 2018 film Destination Wedding, extends beyond playful banter. Ryder has expressed deep admiration for Reeves, calling him “special” and describing their working relationship fondly. However, despite their close friendship, Ryder has jokingly hesitated about joining Reeves in a John Wick-style action film, citing concerns about the physical demands and her age.

Their lighthearted relationship continues to endear fans, adding another chapter to their long-standing partnership on and off-screen. Whether jokingly married or not, their friendship remains one of Hollywood’s most charming dynamics.
