Star Wars Outlaws, the latest open-world venture from Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, has been met with a lukewarm reception since its launch. The game currently holds a 76 rating on Metacritic and OpenCritic, which, while decent, has left the game’s creative director, Julian Gerighty, feeling “a little disappointed.” In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Gerighty shared his thoughts on the reviews, acknowledging the importance of critical recognition while emphasizing his satisfaction with the positive fan reception.
Although Gerighty expressed some frustration with the scores, he is pleased that players have been connecting with the game, despite its flaws. One of the major issues highlighted by critics was the game’s initial lack of polish, with many players and reviewers reporting bugs and technical hiccups, which dampened the overall experience. This was especially evident for those who purchased early access and encountered game-breaking bugs.
Despite these early challenges, Gerighty and the team at Massive Entertainment remain proud of what they’ve accomplished. Star Wars Outlaws was in development for over four years, and Gerighty describes the project as a labor of love, stating the team “reached for the stars” in creating the game. While the launch wasn’t flawless, the team remains committed to improving the experience for players. Gerighty assured fans that they have plans to continually enhance the game, hinting at long-term support and improvements.
Massive Entertainment has already outlined post-launch content in its Season Pass roadmap. Fans can expect two upcoming story packs, starting with “Wild Card” in Fall 2024, featuring Kay Vess and Lando Calrissian, followed by “A Pirate’s Fortune” in Spring 2025, which will bring back fan-favorite Hondo Ohnaka. These additions, coupled with ongoing patches and updates, suggest that the game could evolve into a beloved title over time.
Despite its rocky start, the future for Star Wars Outlaws looks promising, with Ubisoft’s continued commitment to addressing issues and delivering new content. Time will tell if these improvements will elevate the game’s status and appeal to a wider audience.
